Honest Elections Project Action Provides Testimony on Legislation Requiring Kansas State Agencies Share Noncitizen Information with Secretary of State

“Creating safeguards to ensure only citizens vote is a simple, commonsense protection from illegal voting that enhances public trust in outcomes. Many government agencies provide social services and act as voter registration agencies, creating the potential for noncitizens to register to vote while signing up to receive public benefits.

HB2491 requires Kansas agencies to give the Secretary of State data on noncitizens receiving benefits so officials can verify they are not on Kansas voter rolls. Honest Elections Project Action was proud to be represented by its Legal Policy Director, Jackie Doyer, who provided testimony today before the House Elections Committee in support of legislation that would require this information sharing. We urge swift passage of HB 2491 to keep it easy to vote and hard to cheat in Kansas.”
