“Fewer than one in 10 Americans believe that non-citizens should be able to vote in American elections. That Chinese nationals and illegal immigrants can now vote in our nation’s capital should outrage every American.
“But the real irony lies in the fact that some of the same Democrats in Congress who spent two years fighting for an unconstitutional federal takeover of elections refused to intervene claiming they now care about local control of elections. Congress had clear constitutional authority to block this measure, and a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives voted to do just that. Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer let that measure die without a Senate vote. Senate Democrats’ refusal to act cleared the way for an unpopular and misguided law that dilutes the votes of American citizens in the capital of our republic.”
