“Congratulations to North Carolina lawmakers for sending H958 to the governor’s desk. Among other things, this bill empowers the State Auditor to run post-election performance audits to ensure that elections in North Carolina are accurate, secure, and comply with federal and state laws. By requiring mandatory fixes for any problems discovered and a public report produced, it gives North Carolinians more confidence in their elections. There is no excuse for Governor Stein to veto this commonsense bill.”
“But there is still more work to be done. A loophole in federal and state law which allows foreign adversaries to bankroll ballot measure campaigns has left North Carolinians vulnerable to unnecessary foreign influence. Closing this loophole is vital. I call on North Carolina lawmakers to finish the job later this year by closing the foreign influence loophole.”
