Jason Snead, Executive Director of Honest Elections Project Action, released the following statement:
“It is unbelievable that more than 80% of Texas House Democrats voted present on a resolution to advance a ballot measure that would allow Texans to decide whether or not noncitizens should be allowed to vote in Texas elections. Texas Democrats say they are pro-democracy. Why won’t they let the people of Texas vote on whether you should have to be an American to vote in American elections?
“Polling shows that only nine percent of Americans think that noncitizens should be able to vote. Allowing Texans to decide for themselves should not be a partisan issue. But today, Texas Democrats have joined the ranks of extreme progressives in places like Washington, D.C., and New York City, which have recently moved to allow non-citizens to vote in their elections. This vote shows how out of touch Democrats are with everyday Americans who just want it to be easy to vote and hard to cheat.”
