Jason Snead, Executive Director of Honest Elections Project Action, released the following statement:
“Ensuring that noncitizens cannot vote is among the most popular policy proposals in the country. In fact, polling from Honest Elections Project has shown nearly 90% believe American elections should only be for American citizens. Each time a noncitizen illegally votes, the voice of an American citizen voter is canceled out.
“The House is right to prioritize this commonsense reform that requires proof of citizenship to vote. Noncitizens can and do register and vote, but federal law has been interpreted in the courts to block states from verifying citizenship before someone can register. The problem is even more acute given that the Biden Administration allowed millions of illegal aliens to cross our borders. This commonsense measure is a crucial election reform that will make sure it is easy to vote and hard to cheat.”
