Honest Elections Project Action Reacts to Noncitizen Voting Push in D.C.

Jason Snead, Executive Director of Honest Elections Project Action:

“Democrats in Congress spent two years fighting for an unconstitutional federal takeover of elections. Now, when Congress could act to ensure that foreign spies and illegal immigrants are not voting in the nation’s capital—something it has the clear constitutional authority to do—they pretend suddenly to care about local control of elections.

“The D.C. city council is pushing a measure that is wildly out of touch with the views of most Americans, and is so extreme that even the Washington Post editorial staff call it ‘radical.’ Eighty-four percent of Americans agree that only citizens should have the right to vote. But D.C. Democrats want to run our elections like our borders and disregard safeguards that protect the integrity of the vote.

“Our country needs commonsense voting laws that make it easier to vote and harder to cheat. Congress has clear constitutional authority over the District and should block this irresponsible measure. I encourage Congress to act. Every member needs to be on record supporting or opposing this extreme and antidemocratic measure.”
