“For years, foreign nationals have had a massive impact on many states’ policymaking and constitutional amendment process thanks to a loophole in federal law that allows them to contribute indirectly to ballot issue campaigns. Nebraska lawmakers have already moved to make these contributions illegal, but that law failed to deter millions of illegal foreign-tied dollars from flowing into Nebraska campaigns.
“That’s why Honest Elections Project Action is urging lawmakers to strengthen Nebraska’s existing foreign funding ban by passing LB927 to further protect Nebraskans from foreign influence at the ballot box and enhance public trust in elections.”
